Review: Director Koratala Siva’s Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor, delivers a visually grand and action-packed experience but falls short in narrative depth and character development. Jr NTR, returning to the silver screen after the success of RRR, shines in his dual portrayal of Devara and Vara, delivering intense, commendable performances that elevate the film—particularly in the action sequences, his ability to emote, and his effortless dancing skills. His commanding presence, powerful dialogue delivery, and seamless dance moves stand out, though the story itself doesn’t offer the same level of intrigue or excitement.

While the first half is engrossing, with Koratala Siva effectively building the world of Erra Samudram (Red Sea) and setting up the conflict, the second half suffers from pacing issues and predictable plot developments. Saif Ali Khan, in his Telugu debut, is convincing as the vengeful Bhaira, but his dynamism is underutilised, leaving his character lacking the depth to make the antagonist truly stand out. Janhvi Kapoor, as Thangam, gets a limited role and appears in a couple of songs, which is a letdown. Her character’s childhood presence in the first half could have been better incorporated into the second half.

Toofan is a 2024 Bangladeshi-Indian Bengali-language period crime action thriller film directed by Raihan Rafi and co-produced by Chorki, Alpha-i Studios Ltd. and SVF. The story of the film revolves around a gangster of Bangladesh in the nineties, featuring Shakib Khan along with Mimi Chakraborty and Masuma Rahman Nabila, while Chanchal Chowdhury made an extended cameo appearance.

It is the first collaboration between Khan and Chowdhury.
The film is marked Khan's 250th film. Toofan is the highest grossing Bangladeshi film of all time, the most widely released Bangladeshi movie of all time globally, having been released in nearly twenty countries, as well as the first and only Bangladeshi movie to gross over 50 crore taka.

Plot: In 1994, aspiring actor Shanto goes to FDC looking for a role in a movie but is dismissed. On the set, costume designer Julie mistakes Shanto for a background dancer and sends him to the dance floor. The movie's lead actor, Raj, becomes furious when he sees Shanto, who is taller and more handsome than him, and demands that the director remove Shanto from the set. Feeling guilty, Julie manages to get Shanto some minor roles as a background fighter.

Review: With Thangalaan, Pa Ranjith crafts a stunning spectacle on human greed, societal oppression, and self-assertion. The film often feels like a psychedelic trip through pages of history, and Ranjith, through the story of Thangalaan (a fantastic Vikram, who delivers a beast of a performance that is full of fury and fear), takes us from the 18th century onwards all the way back to 5 BCE.

When Thangalaan begins, we are introduced to the simple 18th century life of its titular character, who is one of the very few land-owning members in his community. Most of them are already bonded labours to a landlord, who has managed to deprive them of their land through crooked means. And soon, Thangalaan, too, falls a victim to his wily ways.

But he sees a way out when Clement, a British explorer, seeks help from the community to get gold from a region believed to be haunted. Thangalaan, who has already heard of his forefather's vain attempt at getting gold from the region, decides to accompany Clement, hoping that discovering gold might help him earn money to win back his land and even empower his people. Can he succeed in his mission, especially when it's not just the unforgiving landscape that's standing in the way.

Review: "Premalu 2024" proved to be a delightful surprise. I found this romantic comedy to be thoroughly engaging from beginning to end. The fresh-faced cast delivered charming and natural performances that drew me right into their quirky, relatable world.

I was impressed with how well the actors embodied their characters. There's a genuine quality to their interactions and emotions that adds an extra layer of enjoyment. The film's pacing is lively, moving from scene to scene with ease and preventing any dull moments from creeping in.

The humor is lighthearted and genuine, never feeling forced or over-the-top. I found myself laughing out loud on several occasions. "Premalu 2024" has a pleasant feel-good atmosphere that left me smiling long after the credits rolled.

If you're looking for a fun and heartwarming romantic comedy with a dash of youthful energy, I definitely recommend giving "Premalu 2024" a watch!

Review: The opening and ending scene of Kantara is nothing like you've seen before. The way they wrote the mythological background was so good. But those are limited to the opening scene and climax. What happens in between is the overtold story of the rough hero who gets into trouble for his locality, his love interest and the conflict in the name of their place.

I can't believe they still write characters like Sreevalli and Leela. In the very first scene in which Leela is introduced, the hero straight up physically assaults her. There are other ways to write a romance, you know? No matter how progressed these movies become. They just can't get the female characters right.

The screenplay, direction cinematography, stunts, artwork and acting are pretty great. The screaming could've been dialed down a bit. The repeated screams might give you a headache. Rishab Shetty's performance in the climax is hands down one of the finest work I've ever seen in a Kannada movie. He handled something that could've gone very wrong really well.

It's theater material. Each person is different. This review is my opinion. Watch it in theaters and decide for yourself. Movies like these are made for theatres.

Review: All things considered a neat adaptation of Aadujeevitham. I read the novel around 15 years ago and loved it. I don't remember everything from it but there were some standout moments from the novel that I missed here. Maybe those were the more fictional aspects of the novel and this could be closer to Najeeb's real life, I don't know. But it really felt like that in the first half there was so much focus on certain aspects that could've been shortened with more impact even if they didn't include the parts from the book that I wanted to see since it's already three hours.

The initial portions of Prithviraj as the newly arrived immigrant were also not as convincing as I would've liked. But the film fully commits in every department in the second half and makes such a beautiful experience. Prithviraj's transformation and his suffering are portrayed as a person who is very normal and innocent in contrast to the similar character in Mariyan (which took a lot of inspiration from this novel) who was essentially portrayed as a hero. Periyone song was incredible but it was too short and didn't fully give the impact it could've. In fact, a lot of scenes suffer from this because of poor editing. Other than Periyone, most of the music is either too much or just not matching what is going on. Honestly disappointed with the music. Even the ending of the movie felt a little abrupt, especially considering how the flashbacks were set up but it ended without the full payoff.

Even with all the problems I had Aadujeevitham is a solid movie and a neat adaptation of the novel with incredible performances, especially from Prithviraj. As someone who had read the novel, there were a lot of things that were easier to understand and also other things that I was disappointed with. It felt like it would be an entirely different experience for those who haven't read the novel.
